Life support for mothers and children from Ukraine
Immediately after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, we launched our CHILDREN’S AID PROJECT UKRAINE, where children and young people, along with their families, received transportation support to reach European host countries. People were picked up by various buses from border crossings in Poland (Kroscienko, Budomierz, and Przemysl), where acute emergency situations arose at the time due to a lack of transport options and poor weather conditions. The destinations were larger train stations with available capacity, such as Warsaw, Rzeszow, and Katowice.
In Vienna, families who had to flee Ukraine were further supported through our project LIFE SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND MOTHERS.
In cooperation with immo-humana – Association for Mothers in Housing Crisis, we support single pregnant women, single mothers, and children facing housing insecurity by providing simple but affordable accommodation. If needed, ongoing support for the affected women can also be continued. This includes organizing furniture transports, installation and electrical work, provision of in-kind donations, and liaising with authorities (youth welfare office, MA40, MA35, etc.), including accompaniment and interpreting services. As part of the follow-up care, the women receive financial support for everyday necessities such as food, clothing, toys, and contributions for kindergarten and school. This financial assistance is paid out to the affected mothers as “life support” by immo-humana on behalf of People Share.
By providing affordable housing, women are helped out of hidden homelessness or prevented from becoming homeless. Moving into a new home marks a step toward independent living, offering not only a safe roof over their heads but also integration into society. This path leads away from poverty and precarious living conditions toward social inclusion, improved quality of life, and stability.
When the basic need for housing is met, women can successfully focus on other areas of life: from training programs to entering the job market for the first time.
