Living help for mothers and children in Vienna
immo-humana – Association for Mothers in Housing Need has been supporting single pregnant women, single mothers, and children in housing need since 1997 by providing simple but affordable accommodation.
So far, immo-humana has been able to help over 650 women and 1,350 children with affordable housing. The locations in Innsbruck, Tyrol, and Hohenems, Vorarlberg, were opened in 1999 and 2012, respectively.
The aftercare of the affected women can be continued if needed and includes organizing furniture transports, installation and electrical work, providing in-kind donations, and contacting authorities (youth welfare office, MA40, MA35, etc.), including accompaniment and interpreting services. As part of the aftercare, the women receive financial support for everyday essentials such as food, clothing, toys, and contributions for kindergarten and school. This financial aid is disbursed by immo-humana on behalf of the People Share Foundation as “life assistance” to the affected mothers.
By providing affordable housing, women are lifted out of hidden homelessness or protected from becoming homeless. Moving into a new home marks a step toward independent living, granting them not only a safe roof over their heads but also integration into society. This path leads from poverty-risk and precarious living conditions toward social integration, improved quality of life, and stability.
When the basic need for “housing” is met, women can successfully focus on other areas of life—from training programs to entering the labor market for the first time.
